Giving the gift of books!

There are so many wonderful things about this time of year, and I'm sure we all have our favorites. Whether it's snowy winter mornings, warm baked desserts, or beloved family traditions, the holiday season brings more joyous moments than any other time of year!

One of my favorite things about this time of year is the thrill of giving gifts. I love putting thought into creative and special gifts for my loved ones, as a reminder of how grateful I am to have them. Gifts don't have to be extravagant or expensive to be special - and a go-to of mine is picking out the perfect book that I know someone would love.

So, in honor of the season of giving, I've gathered a few recommendations from the OOM team to help you find the right book to gift a child you love. Here are a few of our picks!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. is a great alphabet book for any young learner. I've seen the way it can capture childrens' interest, and the rhyme and repetition allows kids to quickly pick up and "read" along, giving them confidence in their reading - it's incredible. Still one of my favorite books to gift!

Gina "I think Kate Beaton’s picture book The Princess and the Pony makes an amazing gift. The illustrations are adorable, it’s funny, and it has an amazing message: that anyone can be a hero!"

Brittany "I would recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline for any  adventure-loving high school students. It’s a captivating book that is sure to entertain any science-fiction/video game lovers!"

Mike "I would suggest Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. It’s a classic and great way to introduce young children to poetry and verse. In addition, it’s creative, imaginative and a book a child can grow with as he or she gets older. It’s still in my home library."

Julia "My favorite books to give are the ones that I have special memories reading as child, or books which are favorite reads with my own daughter. When I was young, my dad read the entire Little House on the Prairie series aloud to me--which is one of my favorite book memories. And when my daughter was a baby, I loved reading Dinos on the Move with her. It was the first book I memorized!"
