Scholastic Book Clubs: The Book Boys visit New Orleans

Earlier this month, the Book Boys took a trip to the New Orleans Book Festival. They were on a mission to spread the Scholastic love of reading and share some favorite books in the process!

From burying copies of Holes for young readers to find during a scavenger hunt at the New Orleans Book Festival to visiting four local elementary schools, the Book Boys had a blast performing for students and teachers, leading kids in games, and promoting literacy in classrooms. It was an amazing experience having Scholastic Book Clubs team up with New Orleans' First Lady Cheryl Landrieu to get books into the hands of kids during this special week.

Here are some highlights from their trip:

The Book Boys arrive at Newark Liberty Airport—I guess you could call them the "Fly Guys"!

Fly Guy and the Book Boys hang out on the playground.

Fly Guy received tons of hugs and high fives.

The Book Boys stand in front of William Frantz Elementary School, where Ruby Bridges attended school after breaking the race barrier in 1960.

The Book Boys take on the bayou. After all, a trip to Louisiana wouldn’t be complete without riding through the swamp on a high-speed airboat and hanging with the hogs, racoons and alligators.

The Book Boys and the crew smile for a selfie on the bayou—they must be thinking about the great gumbo they had earlier!

Keep up with the Book Boys and see what they’ll do next on the Scholastic Book Clubs blog: Judy Newman at Scholastic!
