Human Resources Generalist (Los Angeles, CA; Scholastic Book Fairs)

Scholastic is searching for an HR Generalist to work in our Irwindale, CA location. The person in this position will perform all HR-related administrative duties and functions, such as: employee relations, training, payroll, workers' compensation, and benefits administration, all with minimal supervision.  The person in this role will also assist the HR Manager in assigned regional and branch locations to partner with functional managers and senior leaders to promote excellent business partnerships and to implement programs that promote positive employee relations.

Responsibilities include:  

• Administer HR processes (new hire, employee change transactions, terminations, seasonal leave).

• Maintain databases--including but not limited to--tracking job openings, employee referrals, safety, and OFCCP-mandated applicant data

• Assist with recruitment , support/participate in job fairs, open houses, and college recruitment evenst

• Ensure background investigations, drug testing and/or reference checks are completed. 

• Assist HR Manager with employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations by conducting internal investigations as necessary

• Conduct employee climate assessments/roundtables 

• Facilitate and provide training (including new hire orientation, onboarding, benefit open enrollment) to employees

Senior Financial Analyst (Lake Mary, FL; Scholastic Book Fairs)

This is a key position providing financial support to Book Fairs’ regional management teams.  This role requires a close working relationship with field management to communicate financial results. Core responsibilities include preparing financial statements, analyzing variances to plan and identifying financial trends and opportunities to drive financial performance in the regions. Additionally, this position will help facilitate the month-end general ledger close process and prepare supplemental, division-level financial analysis.

Responsibilities include: 

• Accurate and timely delivery of the field financial statements and schedules by establishing and following efficient processes

• Develop and maintain working relationships with regional Vice Presidents, General Managers and Directors of Field Operations

• Review and analyze monthly Zone, Region and Branch level income statements, identify and research causes of variance, and communicate results to Region leaders

• Partner with field stakeholders to create key performance metrics

• Provide comprehensive analysis on labor metrics, distribution analysis, warehouse projects, etc

• Contribute to special projects to improve reporting infrastructure, efficiency and performance. Including, but not limited to liaising with the business, technology, and finance teams on innovative ways to improve reporting visualizations through Hyperion and Tableau as well as communication of results to management, enhancing the strategic role of financial reporting in the organization

Executive Director, Education and Implementation (Scholastic National Partnerships)

The Executive Director is responsible for leading Scholastic National Partnerships' editorial , marketing and education teams in the development and implementation of sponsored education and awareness campaigns. These campaigns, made possible with support from our partners, are pro-social campaigns designed to drive behavior change via high-impact content delivered through Scholastic’s digital, family and school channels, as well as via in-person events and professional development.

Responsibilities include:

• Train staff
• Manage program efficacy and enhance the team’s education and marketing expertise
• Oversee the conception, editorial development, and marketing of programs to meet the goals of partners, the needs of educators, students and families and adhere to Scholastic’s standards
• Equip the senior team with tools and strategies to produce and integrate highest-quality end product 
• Engage in broad-based strategic dialogue with VP and SVP, and in so doing, identify further opportunities for clients and partners

Cloud/Enterprise Systems Architect

The Cloud Architect-Enterprise Systems will play an essential role in a major technology transformation being undertaken by Scholastic. This person will provide enterprise-wide leadership on systems and infrastructure design and implementation, work with domain architects on the best systems design for their specific needs. Scholastic is moving heavily into “the cloud”, using IaaS/PaaS/SaaS solutions as appropriate to each domain. The ability to work both broadly at the enterprise level as well as deeply within a specific domain is key. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Provide architectural leadership on Scholastic’s engineered platforms, tech stacks and infrastructure that power our internal, vendor and customer facing products and services

• Connect systems architecture to the business needs of the company by working closely with key stakeholders and partners

• Build and maintain the current-state and future-state systems architecture views for the enterprise

• Deliver various artifacts as part of the enterprise systems architecture, including systems/network/infrastructure diagrams, reference implementations, best practices, and roadmaps

• Design and socialize the architectural requirements needed to produce resilient, maintainable, scalable technology services
