Associate Education Editor, Scholastic News, Classroom Magazines (Location: New York, NY)
Scholastic News Editions 3, 4 & 5/6 are current events educational publications for grades 3-6. We are looking to hire an Associate Education Editor to create an essential part of our package—the Teacher’s Guide—and to oversee our other educational assets. This person also needs to create a strategy for communicating to teachers about how our products can be an essential part of their classrooms.
Responsibilities include:
- Write and edit weekly Teacher’s Guides
- Write and edit practice standardized tests, Pacing Guides, and other educational assets
- Develop webinars, ELA convention presentations and marketing materials
- Assist with the development and deployment of a cohesive social media strategy for the magazine

Financial Analyst, Scholastic International (Location: New York, NY)
Scholastic is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst for its International division The Financial Analyst position will report into the Director of Finance, International and will be responsible for the consolidation of all financial information from the subsidiaries including budget, forecast and monthly actual submissions.
Responsibilities include:
- Produce monthly financial statements including consolidated free cash flow, capital and prepub expenditures, balance sheet, and P&L
- Review subsidiary reporting packages
- Prepare journal entries at month-end to ensure proper elimination and consolidation
- Review all subsidiary Capital and prepub expenditures on a monthly basis and ensure that they are properly recorded and track to budget/forecast
- Manage upload of forecast/budget/actual submissions into Hyperion ensuring correctness and completeness

Manager, Inventory Planning (Location: New York, NY)
The Manager, Inventory Planning will play a critical leadership role in the management of inventory purchase decisions for all Trade-parented product, both frontlist and backlist. This individual will serve as a key liaison across multiple organizations, including Sales, Operations, and Supply. They will drive the creation of reports and analysis for on-going decision making, and lead associated meetings as necessary. Success will in part be measured by optimizing inventory levels, minimizing costs, and limiting stock-outs.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with Associate Director to manage to optimal inventory levels while minimizing cost of product
- Liaise with Operations and Supply to ensure planned orders/prints are appropriate in light of sales forecasts
- Manage Frontlist inventory levels, including Frontlist planning, review inventory curve/spread based on sales forecast; Work with Publishing Admin Director to understand impact of changes in inventory purchase quantities on final specs
- Manage backlist planning, including: Monitoring of inventory levels to ensure needs are properly reflected in JDA; Manage reprint process and meetings; Drive discussions back to publishing regarding cost of product as it relates to planned purchase quantities and related specs
- Develop strategies to: Determine optimal stock-out levels, Improve reporting and communication, Streamline processes, Minimize costs

Operations Manager, Scholastic Book Fairs (Location: Odenton, MD)
Plan, schedule, direct and execute the day-to-day operational activities of a large-sized (Tier 1) distribution center in the Scholastic Book Fairs division. Evaluate and assess operations of Branch to ensure adherence to company standards and policies, and optimal performance.
Responsibilities include:
Financial Management
- In conjunction with Director, Field Operations and General Manager, plan and prepare annual budget for Branch unit
- Achieve Branch budgeted goals, including direct operating costs, revenue per fair through quality production and timely service to customers, and overall branch profitability
Operations Management
- Implement operational efficiency improvements and utilize capacity planning and operational metrics
- Ensure the branch operates in an efficient manner by utilizing effective methods of packing, set-up, delivery, pick-up of book fairs; and employing capacity planning and staffing methods
- Oversee the production management system, including utilization of the system, to ensure that production plans are generated, implemented, and completed on a daily basis
Leadership
- Manage hiring, training, developing and evaluating of drivers, warehouse personnel and supervisory staff
- Effectively collaborate and communicate between Operations and Sales teams to enhance overall business performance
