It's September 15: the day Brian Selznick's The Marvels is finally, officially, out in the world! If you haven't seen the trailer yet, see it here, on the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog.
The Washington Post said: “Once again, Selznick showcases the cinematic style and blend
of prose and pictures that he pioneered with The Invention of Hugo Cabret…both epic and deeply intimate, this engrossing adventure also reflects on the nature of creativity and storytelling…a bookmaking tour de force, this novel is as full of marvels as its title suggests.”
Tonight, Selznick kicks off his book tour at Books of Wonder in New York City (check out that impressive storefront window!). Click here for more tour dates! Meanwhile, USA Today featured The Marvels in their "new and noteworthy" section, naming it the #1 hottest book on sale this week. Plus, the New York Times Book Review called it a "rich and surprising reading experience,” and the AP featured it in their "fall’s most anticipated books” story.
And Brian himself took to The Atlantic today to talk about his own inspiration. Here, he shares his thoughts on how Where the Wild Things Are showed him the power of picture books.
It's safe to say it's a marvel-ous day for readers everywhere. Share your own thoughts on the stunning book and artwork at #TheMarvels!
