In Our Feeds: the Dad edition

Every Friday, we share a handful of links that we found funny, provocative or just plain cool. We call it In Our Feeds. Have a great weekend!

We've got a big weekend ahead: it's the start of summer AND Father's Day! We hope you have some nice celebrations planned. To get you started, check out this list of the 30 most memorable dads in literature!

Kristen pointed me to iworkatapubliclibrary.com, where librarians submit funny/crazy things that they deal with in their public libraries. (Librarians are heroes!)

Speaking of librarians...Gina sent me this article from iO9: What librarians wish you knew about libraries. I'm cringing because I once donated several (okay, many) bags of books to my local library, and now I think they probably hated me for that. (Sorry, public library of Hoboken.)

Summer officially starts this weekend, and Julia showed me this list of book recs from TED speakers and attendees. Beach reads? Maybe not quite, but still a fascinating list!

While we're on the topic of book recs, Harry Potter is always at the top of our recommendation lists. Megan sent me this article from Buzzfeed and now I think I need to re-read the entire series: 36 questions about Harry Potter that JK Rowling left unanswered. And, just for fun, here's a look at what Harry Potter would be like if it were written from the point of view of Voldemort! (Thanks for the link, Brittany!)

Perhaps the most important link from the week was sent to me by Mike: cat videos are good for you. That's why our new weekly blog feature will include videos of cats reading books! (Just kidding.) (OR AM I?)

Finally, we're all always interested in improving ourselves. (Right?!) Here's the thing to read if that's on your to-do list this summer, sent to me by Naomi: Improve your ability to learn from Harvard Business Review.

And on a serious note: It's been a tough week for the country. We at OOM offer our condolences to the families of the victims in Charleston, SC. One of them, Cynthia Hurd, had been a 31-year employee of the local library system, which closed its 16 branches on Thursday to honor her and the other victims. According to news reports, county officials say the St. Andrews library will be renamed in her honor.

Teachers, here's some information about how to talk to your students about tragedies like this one, and parents, here are four ways to help kids cope.
