Calling all sweet tooths and dessert-for-breakfast fans!
Did you know that today is the official National Doughnut Day. It’s the first Friday in June each year in the United States. First established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army, it honored the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
Here at Scholastic, doughnuts always make us think of these two yummy new picture books:
Please, Mr. Panda by Steve Antony
Author and illustrator Steve Antony has captured a cute (and solemn looking) panda, delightful animals hungry for colorful, delicious looking doughnuts, and a manners lesson all in a few strokes in Please, Mr. Panda.
Jampires by Sarah Mcintyre and David O'Connell
These adorably naughty title creatures fly around at night, but unlike their vampire cousins, Jampires are friendly beasts whose love of sweet things leads to all of the scrumptious jelly disappearing from the doughnuts!
