It's that time of year again to celebrate the best commencement speeches. NPR Ed created a rather impressive database with hundreds of speeches dating back to the 1700s. I am elated that Kermit the Frog made the cut. I wonder what was his "honorary degree"? (h/t Brittany)
This year proved to be another nail-bitter at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. This is the second straight year where two kids were crowned co-champions. The final ten rounds of words blew my mind. Spell check, anyone? C-O-N-G-R-A-T-S to the winners. (h/t Gina)
School librarians are leading the charge to offer more "maker spaces" for kids. Alex shared with me a great article about a growing demand from kids to express themselves through crafts, building and other tactile activities. As someone who thrived off LEGOS and other building sets as a kid, these hands-on, creativity-driven activities shaped my thinking today as an adult to constantly think "outside the box" and repurpose everyday objects into something new.
