Two weeks down, sixteen more to go in the 2015 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge! As of this afternoon, kids have logged just under 30 million minutes so far (reminder: they have to surpass 304,749,681 minutes to set a new world record for summer reading).
Here are a few highlights from last week:
- Story #2 was unlocked: check out Eugene Takes a Holiday by Varian Johnson. Note: Varian is one of our top school prizes (the middle school with the most minutes logged at the end of the summer wins a visit from the author).
- Maine First Lady Ann LePage hosted a Reading Ambassador school event this week, as did Arizona First Lady Angela Ducey!
- On Tuesday night, Laura Robb joined us for a Twitter chat on Summer Reading & the Power of Choice. There was great engagement (examples here and here), and after the chat she curated a Pinterest board with her top recommendations for reluctant readers.
- Our parent bloggers have been doing a phenomenal job sharing how they use program with their families. Check out examples from About a Mom, Five Minutes for Mom, and A Sparkle of Genius.
- In just two weeks, the Innovation Machine Game for kids has had nearly 5,000 plays! (If you haven't played already, be warned: it's very fun and highly addictive.
