Exciting new releases from Scholastic, April 28th

With topics from intruding dinosaurs to the harmful effects of cyber bullying, we have a variety of terrific new books releasing in stores today!

Kids between ages 3 and 5 will have an opportunity for lots of laughs:

  • Ten Pigs: An Epic Bath Adventure, written and illustrated by Derek Anderson, shows what happens when one little pig just wants a relaxing bubble bath and instead is surprised with nine other pigs squeezing into the tub!
  • Audrey’s Tree House by Jenny Hughes, illustrated by Jonathan Bentley, offers a lesson about the struggle between independence and security when Audrey wants her own big-girl tree house but realizes being away from her family may not be as fun as she thought.
  • Never Ask a Dinosaur to Dinner by Gareth Edwards, illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees, will help prepare your child for bed as a dinosaur comes to dinner, a shark wants to borrow a toothbrush, and more!
  • Side by Side by Rachel Bright, illustrated by Debi Gliori, lets readers follow an adorable little mouseling on her search for a best friend through the Wintermouse Wood.

Kids ages 8 to 12 will have plenty of awesome books to choose from:

  • In Beauty Queens,book 7 of the New York Times bestselling Whatever After series by Sarah Mlynowski, sibling duo Abby and Jonah are sucked into their magic mirror and thrown right into the Beauty and Beast story, though of course they accidentally mess the story up and must fix their mistakes before it’s too late!

This month teen readers have a range of very realistic of very unrealistic choices for reading: 

  • The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough turns mystic forces Love and Death into characters who play with Henry and Flora, a white boy and African-American girl living in 1920s Seattle, in the next round of their “game.” The question is—who will win?

  • Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger is a companion novel to the best-selling book The DUFF, which has now been adapted into a major motion-picture. LOL tells the story of “excellent liar” Sonny Ardmore as she navigates high school with her best friend Amy and new-kid nemesis Ryder.
  • Backlash by award-winning columnist Sarah Darer Littman tackles cyberbullying in a story about how online life collides with real life and all of the backlash that can follow, based on much of Littman’s own reporting.
