Teachers, this is the summer reading program you've been waiting for

We're just weeks away from the start of the 2015 Summer Reading Challenge (SRC), and already teachers around the world have pre-registered over 335,000 students to participate! (Reminder: teachers can pre-register their students now, before the Challenge officially kicks off for kids on May 4, 2015).

If you're a teacher (or if you know a teacher) looking to get involved in a summer reading program with your class or school, the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge has a lot to offer (and it's all FREE. Seriously, all of it). This year's theme is "Power Up & Read" (powered by Energizer) and it's all about boosting kids' confidence as readers, building reading muscles, and getting energized and motivated around books.

Below we've listed all of the many features this program has to offer for educators. Take a look and register today!

  • A fancy Educator Dashboard. Once you register for SRC, you'll have access to your Educator Dashboard, a tool that lets your register your students (or multiple classes), track their reading progress all summer, and send emails to students' parents. You can easily edit your class lists, upload additional students, or print minutes reports. Here's our handy How-To Guide to get you started!
  • An Educator Sweepstakes! Enter for a chance to win a classroom library of 50 books (deadline: June 30th, 2015)!
  • Free classroom printables. You've registered your students, now it's time to get them excited to read this summer! We've got a Reading Pledge, a Reading Log, and a School Poster you can hang in your classroom or school hallways to build excitement. We've also created some "Power Up & Read" themed printables, like this Innovation Machine printable and this Story Starter printable. (Download the Spanish versions here.)
  • Free book lists for every age. Get the full list here, and the Spanish version here.
  • Resources for parents. Send letters home to parents (in English or Spanish) to remind them about your class' summer reading goals. Parents can also access daily tips on our Parents Portal, from May 4th - September 4th.

There are so many exciting features for your students this year as well:

  • 12 NEW original short stories from favorite Scholastic authors. As kids read and log minutes this summer, a new story will unlock on the website. The stories are fully-illustrated, interactive, and have an audio component should you wish to read them aloud together.
  • An Innovation Machine Game & Writing Contest, powered by Energizer. Starting May 4th, kids will be able to play a story starter game to make their own original summer stories. They can enter their finished stories into the Innovation Machine Writing Contest for a chance to win signed books from all of our featured authors!
