Well, you couldn't have asked for better timing! Friday was officially the first day of summer, and over the weekend, kids reached 50 million minutes in the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge, unlocking our second corporate book donation!
As part of the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Give Back, kids participating in the Challenge can help unlock a giveaway of at least 200,000 books from Scholastic in collaboration with United Way. There are three major minute milestones over the course of the summer, and the more minutes kids collectively enter on the website, the faster they will unlock these donations.
- First donation: 25 million minutes – Reached on Wednesday, May 29, 2019!
- Second donation: 50 million minutes – Reached on Saturday, June 22, 2019!
- Third donation: 100 million minutes

As part of this donation, thousands of Scholastic books will soon be shipped to United Way locations across the country, where they’ll be distributed to families in need. Congratulations again to our thousands of readers participating – keep up the good work! With schools across the country officially out for summer, we can’t wait to see those minutes add up these next few months. And parents, don’t worry – it’s not too late to join! Kids can sign up for an account any time and start logging their minutes.
The last donation will be unlocked at the biggest milestone of the summer: 100 million minutes!
