Our #BookConfession

Last week we spied the incredibly fun trending Twitter hashtag #BookConfession. Readers from all corners of the internet shared their deepest, darkest book secrets, and I personally couldn't help but be glued to the feed, even to the extent that it caused me to be late for a meeting (sorry, boss!).

This week, I ambushed my co-workers and strong-armed them into confessing their book secrets. Below, I share them with you—anonymously, of course—no one will ever get out of me who among us once thought Hermione was pronounced "hormone."

Presenting Scholastic book confessions (names disguised to protect the innocent... and guilty):

Harry: I don’t lend out books because I like to keep their covers pristine

Hermione: When I am sitting next to a person on public transportation who is reading I try to read over their shoulder (but hate when people do that to me!).

Ron: I once went an entire day without showering because I couldn’t stop reading.

Ginny: I think I’m the only one in my department who has never read the Baby-Sitters Club series.

Mary Anne: I didn’t finish the Harry Potter series.

Kristy: I am obsessed with tracking down and re-reading old books from my childhood. Even the most obscure, random book—like, something I read once when I was 12—becomes some kind of symbolic quest. I search for it on ebay, I read old reviews, I buy a copy of it when it’s available, and then I re-read it. Basically: I get immense satisfaction from hunting for old books, even badly written ones, and adding them to my collection.

Claudia: Even though I know it's good to have a house full of books, I don't like the look of book clutter or crowded shelves. I mostly read 'em, and then clear 'em out!

Stacey: I judge books by their covers. Hard.

Dawn: My first experience with a collections agency was for library fines.

Mallory: People have given me library books as birthday gifts and I’ve decided not to question it.

Abby: I have found several library books while packing my book shelves and I am too scared to return them.

Jessi: In eleventh grade I went the entire year without ever reading the Social Studies textbook – a.k.a. “Brinton”.

Shannon: When I first read Harry Potter, I thought that Hermione was pronounced “hormone.”

And that's it—our secrets are revealed! In the comments, tell us: what are your book confessions?
