Open today: Teacher registration for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge!

It's official: teacher registration for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is open! Starting today, you can pre-register your students, access free classroom materials, and enter our teacher sweepstakes for a chance to win a classroom library!

New to the Summer Reading Challenge? Here's a quick overview. Now in its 9th year, the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online/mobile reading program dedicated to stopping the "summer slide" by encouraging kids to read in the summer. Starting May 4, 2015, kids can log their reading minutes online, enter sweepstakes to win fabulous prizes, and earn digital rewards when they complete weekly reading challenges. This year’s theme is "Power Up & Read," sponsored by ENERGIZER®. The goal this year is to set a NEW reading world record, beating the 2014 record of 304,749,681 minutes.

Every year, students participate in the Summer Reading Challenge together on behalf of their schools, in hopes of becoming a top 20 school and winning one of the fabulous prizes (listed below). That's where you come in! Pre-register the students in your class now and they'll be all set to start reading and competing for their school on May 4th.

Teacher Registration

  • Go to the Summer Reading Challenge website and login with your Scholastic credentials or create a new account. Once you've logged in, you can access your Educator Dashboard.
  • Use your Educator Dashboard to add your class (or multiple classes—up to 99!). You'll be able to track your students' reading progress all summer long, and edit or print class lists as needed.
  • Check out our handy How-To Guide for Teachers for more information.
