How we celebrated World Read Aloud Day 2019

February 1 was World Read Aloud Day, the day we celebrate the profound power of the read-aloud! For 10 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read aloud. Here's how we celebrated this year:

We kicked things off with a live read-aloud event in our New York City headquarters for close to 200 NYC students that we also livestreamed. Classrooms around the country tuned in to watch authors Ross Burach, Sayantani DasGupta, Carmen Agra Deedy, and Peter Reynolds read aloud:

Later in the afternoon, we went live again! This time featuring read-alouds from our ELA and STEAM Clasroom Magazines editors:

We also shared lots of our brand new data from our Kids & Family Reading Report: The Rise of Read-Aloud:

And we released a podcast episode all about the findings in The Rise of Read-Aloud:

More of our authors shared personal messages about why reading aloud is so important (see them all here!):

And we LOVED seeing how kids, parents, teachers, and librarians around the world celebrated:

Even some celebrities joined in!

We'll celebrate with you again next year! Until then, keep the read-aloud going!
