Hispanic music and family, and a giveaway!

All month, Maya & Miguel will be on OOM weekly to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Last time: Mexican art with Miguel; today, we close out Hispanic Heritage Month with music in the Santos family.

¡Hola!  I’m Santiago Santos, Maya and Miguel’s Papi.  One of the most important things to me is family time, and one of my favorite ways to bring my family together is through music!

Music is a big part of life in my home country of Puerto Rico.  Even though I came to America as a toddler, my parents still filled our home with Puerto Rican music all the time.  We listened to a lot of bombas, catchy dance music filled with fun rhythms and horns, and boleros, slow and powerful melodies.

Now, if I am feeling particularly romántico, I pull my wife Rosa into an embrace, and we dance a salsa!  And when all four of us Santos are having family night, I take out my guitar, Miguel takes out his drums, and we play a merengue for Rosa and Maya to dance to!  It is a great, fun family time!  ¡Olé

To experience some of our favorite music from around the world, play the Global Groovin’ game here.

PLUS, a special giveaway! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and Maya & Miguel’s 10th Anniversary, we’re having a big giveaway!  Enter via e-mail from now until Wednesday, October 15th at 11:59 PM EST.  One lucky winner will receive a full-season download of Maya & Miguel from iTunes, along with a bunch of Maya & Miguel goodies and a Spanish words book!
