Growing readers with Branches

Last night my sister sent me a video of my 6-year-old niece reading out loud from her favorite new book. (That's her in the picture, sneaking in some reading time between school and gymnastics!) Watching someone learn to read is almost indescribable; in the video, my niece sounds out words and stumbles over a few of them, but is so sure of herself, so proud, and so engaged in the book that you can almost see the joy radiating from her.

So what was this magical book that capured her attention AND perfectly suited her burgeoning reading capabilities?

It was a Scholastic Branches book—Missy's Super Duper Royal Deluxe, to be exact.

Scholastic Branches is a unique line of books designed for newly independent readers (like my niece!) who are ready to make the leap from leveled readers but who might not be quite ready for a traditional chapter book. We here at Scholastic are HUGE fans of these books. And we're not alone. Imagination Soup said "I love the Scholastic Branches 'Pick a Series, Grow a Reader' books because they keep kids motivated to read with something for everyone."

The Scholastic Branches website has everything you need, including parent, teacher, and classroom worksheets and reading guides, plus excerpts of lots of Branches books! Oh, and if Pinterest is more your speed, we've got a brand-new Branches Pinterest Board!

Check out all the Branches series here!
