Publicity Manager, Trade Publishing

The Publicity Manager will work with children’s book authors/illustrators with responsibility for implementing publicity plans and campaigns for key titles as assigned: working with authors, creating comprehensive tour schedules, scheduling travel and events, arranging media interviews, writing press materials and pitch letters, researching media contacts, fulfilling review copy requests, etc. Must be comfortable pitching national and local media for print, TV, radio, and online. This position will co-manage a Publicity Assistant and will report directly to the VP of Publicity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong interest in children’s books.
  • This fast-paced position requires the ability to work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Minimum 4–6 years book publicity experience required.
  • Knowledge of children’s books and media preferred.
  • The position also requires the following: experience writing press releases and pitch letters and interacting with the media; ability to work in a collaborative environment, to interact with authors, the press, and other colleagues; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.
  • Some management experience and familiarity with various social media platforms and media databases such as Cision and Publicity Assistant a plus.

Sales Consultant, Scholastic Book Fairs

The Sales Consultant is responsible for achieving budgeted Fair counts, net revenue, and overall sales program goals in assigned territory through effective execution of the sales and servicing methods of the Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve budgeted Fair event count and revenue goals by scheduling events in schools within assigned territory.
  • Maintain current, accurate sales/service records of individual activity within assigned territory.
  • Develop and expand customer relationships with each Chairperson and other school personnel by understanding individual requirements/expectations and meeting needs through company’s product, process, and services.
  • Work with business partners to implement new technologies, staying abreast of current sales process/expectations as developed.
  • Work effectively in situations involving shifting priorities and rapid change, demonstrating ability to cope well with challenging circumstances.

Sales Trainee, Scholastic Book Fairs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gains knowledge and experience required for promotion to sales consultant positions under the direction of experienced sales consultants or direct supervisor.
  • Receives training and performs duties in several areas such as sales, marketing promotional materials, warehousing, inventory, customer service, information systems (AS400 reports) to become familiar with the functions, operations, company policies and procedures that affect the Book Fairs business.
  • Works in warehouse: identifies aisle locations of Brand Fair materials, gains experience with cases, toppers, displays, cash registers, credit cards, costumes and how they are used, packs all Brand Fairs, rides with a driver.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years sales or customer service experience.
  • Computer literate; LOTUS, Microsoft Word.
  • Current and valid driver’s license with good driving record required. 
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs, push/pull cases up to 300lbs.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
