Banned Books Week 2016

Pop quiz: what do Harry Potter, BONE, The Hunger Games, and Captain Underpants all have in common?

Yes, they're wonderful books. But they've also each been banned.

Welcome to Banned Books Week, an annual series of events that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the importance of free, open access to information. The week brings together the entire book community in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas...even those some may consider unpopular or unorthodox.

Each year, the American Library Association lists the 10 most banned books of the year. Events are hosted all over the country in celebration—check here to see if an event is hosted near you!

Check out the slideshow below to see which Scholastic titles have previously been banned.
