Banned Books Week 2014: Getting graphic!

Pop quiz: what do The Hunger Games, Captain Underpants, and BONE all have in common?

If you guessed "well, they're all great books/series," you're right. But there's more: each of them has earned a spot in the top 10 list of this year's most challenged books.

Welcome to Banned Books Week, an annual series of events that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the importance of free, open access to information. The week brings together the entire book community in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas...even those some may consider unpopular or unorthodox.

First celebrated in 1982, Banned Books Week this year is highighting the popular but often misunderstod genre of graphic novels. As the publisher of such titles as Jeff Smith's BONE through our graphic novel imprint Graphix Books and as a company that has recently partnered with the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, we're paying special attention to this year's Week, and you can expect some exciting posts in the days ahead.

Meanwhile, we're sharing this slideshow of some of the most challenged Scholastic books over the years.
