5 Reasons Why We Heart YA (And You Should Too!)

There’s nothing quite like the bond between a young adult book nerd and his or her bookshelf. Trust me—I'm speaking from experience!

Today is Valentine's Day and the final day of #LoveYourShelfI read YA's week-long celebration all about gushing over the YA books that have captured our hearts. At I read YA, we feel Valentine's Day isn't only about celebrating who you love, but also the stories you love.

Here are 5 reasons why we heart YA:

1. You don't have to go far for adventure.

Run by Kody Keplinger and Whenever I’m With You by Lydia Sharp are two exhilarating road trip tales that ask us to consider the lengths we’re willing to go to for the people we love most. These stories remind us that love has no limits.

2. YA affirms that we are not alone.

In Better Off Friends and Just Another Girl (coming March 28, 2017), author Elizabeth Eulberg reminds readers that heartache is a normal part of life that everyone experiences at some point.

3. You can experience the thrill of something new!

Looking for something totally fresh and original? The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough and Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky are dark, eccentric reads with twists that keep readers on the edges of their seats!

4. YA lets us escape reality.

Beloved YA series like The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater give readers an opportunity to unwind from their lives and dive into new worlds they can get lost in!

5. YA doesn't shy away from issues that really matter.

Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg and Unbecoming by Jenny Downham are just two examples of LGBTQ+ books that declare that all shades of love should be acknowledged because it doesn’t matter who you love, but that you love.

There are many, many more reasons to love YA and we'd love to hear YOURS! Show your shelf some love and share with us why you heart YA using #LoveYourShelf!

Happy Reading Book Nerd Nation!
