Let’s all Read Across America!
By Morgan on March 1st, 2013
March 2 is the birthday of the one and only Dr. Seuss! It marks a day when schools across the country celebrate reading in commemoration of the man who continues to bring so much joy to readers. This year, because the 2nd falls on a Saturday, it’s being celebrated today. Happy Read Across America Day!
The National Education Association (NEA) has been building a nation of readers with Read Across America, a year-round program that focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers are participating by bringing together kids, teens, and books. We’d love to hear how you, your schools, or your families are celebrating! The NEA Read Across America web site is worth a stop, by the way, whether you’re involved in the program or not, and their Facebook page offers a to-the-minute glimpse of activities.
We have some ideas, too! The Scholastic Teachers website has a great list of classroom activities, including printables, and Scholastic News Online has an awesome digital issue all about Dr. Seuss at work!
How are you celebrating the day?
