It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

The old OOM...how far we've come in 5 years!

The old OOM…how far we’ve come in 5 years!

If you click back in our archives, the very first post you’ll see is from Tyler, and it’s called Nerd Alert!

That was five years ago exactly, and it was a big day for us: it marked the beginning of OOM!

OOM actually started off as an email newsletter focusing on education, but went live in blog format, becoming the official blog of Scholastic Inc., on March 7, 2008. Back then, we had no idea what OOM would look like five years down the road. Since its inception, we’ve had a redesign (with another one coming soon!); welcomed many amazing new bloggers; posted lots of incredible guest posts; won a few awards; and had way too much fun. We can’t thank you all enough for sticking around to see what we have to say, and for contributing yourselves.

To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we thought we’d have a little fun. Introducing #Page5!

We’re all book fanatics here, right? So, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on Pinterest, we’ll be using #Page5 all day to celebrate what has brought us all together these past five years: a love of reading.

Snap a photo of the fifth page of whatever book you’re reading right now, or your favorite book of all time. Tweet us using #page5, or post your photo to our Facebook page. On Pinterest, we’ll be posting some #Page5 trivia!

OOM is the place where we tell stories about books and reading and schools and life; it’s a place where we love hearing about the things you’re reading and what’s on your minds when it comes to kids and education. And OOM, hopefully, offers you a broad look at the world of Scholastic where, for more than 90 years, we’ve been teaching kids to learn to read and love to read. Thanks so much for talking with us on OOM for the past five years!
