Picture perfect: a look at our illustrators at work
By Megan on February 4th, 2013
It’s Children’s Authors and Illustrators Week! To celebrate, we’ve got a round up of some of our favorite videos featuring illustrators hard at work. (Remember the time Raina Telgemeier stopped by this very blog to share an exclusive web comic she drew? We have that, too!) What would we do without Stephen Savage’s gorgeous carvings or the clever sketches by the amazing Dav Pilkey? Who is your favorite illustrator? Share it here!

Dear OOM, clever but where are the women illustrators? There must be at least one to show off during CA&IW.

My name is Charles Ott and I am a self-taught illustrator & digital artist from Pittsburgh. I welcome Scholastic and any parents or teachers who would be interested in using my illustrations as an educational, historical or visual tool for their children or students. Perhaps I can inspire someone through my work as I was inspired when I began drawing at a young age.

The human characters in the books offered by Scholastic Book Clubs Book flyers are OVERWHELMINGLY white. How infuriating/disappointing. I will not be ordering more books until this changes. Please contact me if it does.

Hi Wendy — you’re right, of course, in that we have lots of amazing female illustrators. We’ve added one video of Mary GrandPre (illustrator of the Harry Potter series), and we’ve linked to an exclusive web comic that Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Drama) did just for OOM a few years ago!
