What we're thankful for at Scholastic

What we’re thankful for at Scholastic

By on November 22nd, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We interrupt your turkey feasting for a very special reason: we want to share with you what we’re thankful for here at Scholastic. There are so many wonderful things about this company; it is a multifaceted network of people and products and programs, all with one goal in mind: to provide quality, engaging educational content for the next generation of learners, and the families and educators who guide them.  While we’re thankful for all of that, we’re also thankful for the little things—the quirky and  seemingly random items that fill our workspaces, connect us, or just make our day for some reason or another. Here they are.

Nadia: “I’m thankful for the freebie book cart, because it helps me find great  new books to read, and stocks my bookshelf at my desk. I also find fun books, silly books, and some of my old favorites (ex. Baby Sitters Club, Freak the Mighty, The Boxcar Children, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Wayside School books, and so many more!)”

Morgan: “The bookshelves. Having bookshelves everywhere makes it easy to a. read more books and b. find inspiration for blog posts, intranet stories, and tweets whenever I find it lacking!”

Alex: “I am thankful for the wellness center at Scholastic. It is great to have a medical facility at work where we can get allergy medicine, advil, flu shots and more.”

Dante: “I’ve had a little TV in my office since Election Day (it looks like a CB radio with a screen attached to it), and even though it’s a new addition to my workspace it’s so, so beneficial — and it makes the news-gathering part of job that much easier. Really happy I have it!”

Lia: “I’m thankful that my colleagues have a sense of humor and decide to deck out my desk in cat lady memorabilia.”

Lauren: “The Greenhouse terrace. It’s got a gorgeous view of the city and it’s a nice escape when I want to relax with coworkers and enjoy lunch.”

Kristen: “I’m thankful for The Scholastic Store because it’s the perfect place to pick up a last-minute gift or to just browse the new titles!”

Anne: “I’m thankful for being greeted by Clifford every morning (how can you be mad?) and the rotating artwork by the amazing Scholastic Art & Writing Award winners.  I still can’t believe all of our artwork is by teens sometimes.”

Michael: “I am thankful for the pumpkin spice coffee and hazelnut coffee at the Red Bar (and also a little too often, I am thankful for the pecan chocolate tart.)”

What am I thankful for? I’m cheating and listing two: at the moment, I love the chili pepper ornaments on the trees in our office lobby, and always, my Captain Underpants inflatable doll. He sits atop my desk and sends me good vibes.

Happy Thanksgiving!
