It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

Putting the "e" in BSC

Putting the “e” in BSC

By on November 14th, 2012

Say hello to your friends!

Pop quiz: what was the first children’s book series to appear on the USA Today bestseller list?

If you guessed The Baby-sitters Club (perhaps simply by noting the image I’ve chosen to go along with this post, smarties), you’re right, of course. And we have exciting, breaking book news this morning: Ann M. Martin’s bestselling, beloved series will be released as ebooks in December! AND, the first 20 ebooks will feature the classic covers!

Many of us here at OOM are huge, huge fans of The Baby-sitters Club (or BSC for short). I was lucky enough to be working here back in 2010 when we announced the revival of the BSC, and since then, we’ve talked about Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, Stacey, Dawn and the rest of gang many times over. (You should hear us at our editorial meetings.) Today, Entertainment Weekly got the scoop, including thoughts from editor David Levithan and the author herself. And here on OOM, we have big things planned!

Starting tomorrow, we’re kicking off a new blog series, written by some of the BSC’s biggest fans…who also happen to be Scholastic employees. We’ll run these BSC guest posts a few times per week for the rest of the year — and we have some awesome surprises in there! You’ll have to stay tuned for those.

For now, though, check out the complete press release here for all the details. And, if you haven’t Liked The Baby-sitters Club on Facebook yet, you’re missing out. Just today, they launched this new app that is sure to take you back and get you (re)hooked, and they’ll be releasing all kinds of exclusive content, trivia, cool photos, contests, and more! (Sshhh: don’t tell the other Scholastic Facebook pages, but the BSC is my favorite one!)

And finally, we’re issuing you a challenge: if you were a big BSC fan growing up, now’s the time to share the love with a new generation of young readers. Spread the word about the BSC ebooks!

Although I’ve still got several years before my daughter will be old enough for BSC, I can’t wait to introduce her to these books!
