It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

Books we wish were movies (so we could eat popcorn while watching them)

Books we wish were movies (so we could eat popcorn while watching them)

By on October 8th, 2012

Since October is National Popcorn Poppin’ Month (I kid you not) we thought it would be the perfect excuse to share what books we would turn into movies. And let’s be real, what’s a movie without popcorn, right? Right. Drum roll please. The OOM book-to-movie nominations are:

THE NIGHT CIRCUS

Lauren would LOVE to see THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morganstern turned into a movie. The book is so rich in description it would be amazing to see the setting come to life. She thinks it would be gorgeous and the special effects would be tremendous. It’s also a great love story, and she’d also be curious to see who they’d cast as the two leads.

DARE ME

Morgan just finished DARE ME by Megan Abbot, and she says it’s the perfect popcorn-watching movie…intense and suspenseful, with a murder mystery and a whole lot of scary teenage cheerleaders.

Beauty Queens

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray is Nadia’s pick. She said, it’s smart, funny, and she would love to see who they would cast to play the beauty pageant contestants who are stuck on a deserted island.

Gone Girl

Many of us here have read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn recently! Kristen thinks the twists and turns of the story would make for a perfect psychological thriller (I won’t give away anything more than that!)

MWF Seeking BFF

Lia just finished reading MWF Seeking BFF by Rachel Bertsche, and LOVED it. She thinks it’d be fun to see a movie version of her yearlong search for a best friend. Lia also added that if it does become a movie, she wishes she could help write the screenplay…

Life of Pi

Since this is my post, I am going to bend the rules a bit…My choice would be Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Lucky for me it is coming out this November! Think of how much energy and suspense a film could bring with that plot—a boy lost a sea in a small boat with a hungry tiger! I can’t wait to see it.

As for my other OOMers, well I hope your books turn into movies soon! Who knows, maybe some big-time producer is reading this post !
