Happy Magic Day! Yes, today is Halloween, and also a day we and our neighbors are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, but it is also Magic Day, in honor of Harry Houdini’s death on October 31, 1926.
So let’s celebrate Magic Day by rounding up our favorite magical books and characters:
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling: this is an obvious one. Wands, spells, Quidditch…the world of Harry Potter is filled with magical people and places. I wish we could celebrate with a trip to the magical village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts, or Diagon Alley.
Matilda by Roald Dahl: Matilda, an exceptionally smart child, develops telekinetic powers, which she uses on the evil headmistress Ms. Trunchbull.
The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater: Even though Blue declares she is not a witch, she and her family have some special psychic powers. Blue acts as a microphone and intensifies the magic around them.
Magisterium by Jeff Hirsch: When the government comes after her scientist father, 16-year-old Glenn Morgan and her friend Kevin run from the authority and cross the Rift, a border which divides her world of logic and science to a magical one controlled by the Magisteria.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare: When magical juice is accidentally given to the wrong person, chaos ensues for royalty, actors, and fairies.
There are so many magical books – what’s your favorite? Tell us in the comments!
