Back to fictional school
By Anne on September 11th, 2012
This is that fun time of year when you start thinking about cooler weather, hot chocolate, fall sports, leaves turning colors and of course, SCHOOL. It is such a relatable experience for everyone, going back to school. We all remember buying new school supplies, learning our new schedules, decorating our lockers and meeting new teachers and friends. I think that is why so many timeless and favorite books take place in school or at the very least, school is part of the story. Harry Potter is the perfect example. Diagon Alley is the quintessential back-to-school shopping experience. The levels of wizardry learning and new potions professors ring true to our own growing up in school. Too bad our own schools didn’t have magic! If I could still go back to school every year, I think I would. That is if I could pick which fictional school I could go to each year! Hogwarts is far too easy an answer so I asked the OOMers and here’s what we think:
Michael is sure Ashbury High (from Jaclyn Moriarty’s books) would be a whole lot more interesting than his high school alma mater. There are mysteries abound and of course, he expects everyone to speak in a very cool accent!
Megan would attend Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches (from The Worst Witch) because every student gets their own black cat on the first day of school!
Like most of us, Hogwarts is Lia’s first choice but she has a back up! If for some reason she didn’t get in, she would attend Stoneybrook Middle School – who doesn’t want to join the Baby-sitters Club?
Lauren claimed Sweet Valley High immediately!
This may be cheating but I think I’m going to pick anywhere with Ms. Frizzle. She travels the world and beyond (seriously) with her students and the Magic School Bus. Imagine if school had no boundaries at all. Sign me up!
Where would you attend?
