It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

A live classroom webcast...with Taylor Swift!

A live classroom webcast…with Taylor Swift!

By on September 13th, 2012

Calling all teachers and kids! Clear your calendars for October 24th at 2:00pm ET. Taylor Swift is coming to your classroom.

That’s right, after reaching millions of students with her Fall 2010 Live Webcast,  “Read Now with Taylor Swift,” one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters returns to Scholastic.com in a LIVE Webcast about the power of books and reading. We’re inviting teachers and students to participate in what’s sure to be an incredible 30-minute online classroom event, hosted by MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway. During this time, Taylor will share “where reading can take you” and how great literature has inspired her writing. Taylor will also answer questions from students, and perform a song from her new CD, RED.

Rolling Stone wrote that Taylor is “one of the few genuine rock stars we’ve got these days, with a flawless ear for what makes a song click.” 60 Minutes reported “she is as big as it gets,” and Forbes listed her as one of the most powerful celebrities in the world. But why do we love Taylor? Because she’s committed to serving as a role model for her millions of young fans.

Teachers interested in tuning in with their class can register for the webcast beginning TODAY (9/13/12). Please register no later than 12:00 pm ET/ 9:00am PT on Wednesday, October 24th in order to access the live event at 2:00pm ET/11:00am PT, or the video replay of the event, which will be available shortly after the live webcast.

Can’t wait to see Taylor? There is a lot you can do with your students to get ready for the event. You and your students can  submit a question for Taylor in advance, which may be selected and asked during the live event. You can also visit the site to read all about Taylor’s life, her music career, and the books that have shaped her life.

I’m just curious, what age level will this webcast be appropriate for? More high school or littler ones (2nd-3rd grade), too?
