Monday Funday and a happy birthday!!!
By Anne on August 6th, 2012
Good morning! I know, I know, Monday mornings are the worst but that’s where Monday Funday comes in. On Mondays we post a pic from around the office — something funny or cool that catches our eye. Today’s pic? Andy Warhol, a man, a legend, an artist, a face we see every day…why?
Andy won a Scholastic Art & Writing Award when he was attending high school in Pittsburgh circa 1945. During an exhibition of his in 1980, he was photographed wearing his Gold Key and we just think that is so cool. Plus it is an amazing legacy for teens to follow. Today, his photo inspires everyone as they walk into Scholastic’s offices and our building’s art collection begins (which is solely Scholastic Art & Writing Award-winning teen works). To make Monday Funday even more special, today is his birthday!!!
Happy birthday Andy, your work continues to inspire generations.
Speaking of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, on September 17th the 90th year begins with the call for submissions. Teens, teachers and parents, mark that date on your calendars! More details to come but the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers will accept pieces of art and writing all through the fall. We can’t wait to see the amazing and bold ideas submitted by today’s youth.
In the meantime, check out all the other amazing alumni here. I promise you’ll be impressed.
