It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

New FREE iPad app “Sushi Monster” teaches important math skills

New FREE iPad app “Sushi Monster” teaches important math skills

By on April 24th, 2012

What do you get when you mix sushi and math? Sushi Monster!

Sushi Monster is our newest FREE iPad game app to practice and extend math fact fluency. The “Sushi Monster Chef” cooks up plates of numbers that challenge users’ deep understanding of math facts by requiring them to think backwards – choosing numbers that combine in different ways to equal a given answer; all served with a side of raw fish!

But beware…. if you’re anything like me and love sushi, try not to get distracted—players need to have a strategy when selecting numbers from the chef. When you select the correct number combinations the monster will eat the sushi, however if you select the wrong numbers you will have to face the angry monster tossing sushi everywhere.

Developed by Scholastic’s experts in educational game design, Sushi Monster was created to meet specific Common Core fluency standards. The game was originally created for FASTT Math Next Generation, Scholastic’s math fact fluency program designed to meet the Common Core State Standards.

It’s not just addicting—it’s based on the science of learning and will make you smarter!

Click here to get Sushi Monster now from the iTunes Store.

I downloaded Sushi Monster and played a round – fun! I’ll try it with students soon. I think they are going to like this one.
