The Friz celebrates with a 2nd-grade class on the Hudson River
Wahoo! The Magic School Bus celebrated a major milestone this week—its 25th anniversary!—and we’ve been celebrating all month. That’s 25 years of wild field trips, the craziest Ms. Frizzle outfits (and Frizzle-isms), and a quarter century of memories. We’ve been hearing a lot of those memories from fans on the Magic School Bus Facebook page—memories of how the Bus hooked them on science, how they’ve passed the adventure onto their own kids, where they’d like to see the bus go next, or even how Ms. Frizzle inspired them to be a teacher. It’s quite remarkable how The Magic School Bus has affected so many and continues to do so while inspiring curiosity, adventure and exploration in all of us.
To celebrate, The Magic School Bus took to the Hudson River and made a special ‘bus stop’ at Pier 84 in New York City this week! Ms. Frizzle, along with special guests, author Joanna Cole and illustrator Bruce Degen, surprised a second grade class from the United Nations International School on their field trip to greet the Bus. And, what Frizzle field trip would be complete without a zany science lesson? Marine biologist and educator Dr. Merryl Kafka led a hands-on science lesson about the vertebrates and invertebrates of the Hudson River. She even had a live horseshoe crab (which, interestingly enough, is not a crab and is more closely related to spiders…the things you learn!). In a day that many of these young explorers will never forget, Ms. Frizzle reminded them that “Science is all around us…so let’s get out there and explore!”
And to that, we salute The Magic School Bus and Ms. Frizzle for making science fun and memorable. Here’s to 25 more years! Check out our slideshow of the event:

I remember convincing my Mom that I was sick so that I could take the day off school and play the Magic School Bus CD Rom game on my computer! She didn’t cotton onto it until about 2.30 by which time it was too late to send me to school. In my defence, I was still learning even though I wasn’t in the classroom!

My favorite memories are watching the Magic School Bus everyday with my children when they were in grade school. They still love your show and they’re all teens now! Thanks Ms. Frizzle, Liz and all of the gang – you inspired learning in our home for years – I remember the titles “Going Batty” and something about Mussels being 2 of our favorites. Congratulations on 25 years!

The Magic School Bus is mostly meaningful to me know as a 4th grade teacher, however I’m not sure that would’ve come to pass if I hadn’t been shown them when I was a child/student. I like (and liked) them because the science is ALWAYS presented in an ‘in the moment’ real life situation. I find this extremely refreshing in light of most other videos and books that are more explanatory in nature.

Always have tried to *look* like Ms. Frizzle, even! CD-Rom games always a favorite activity at the library back in the day…

I remember taking the magic school bus books on every long car ride! I loved learning new facts and enjoying the pictures! Especially Lizzy’s word bubbles.

I remember hearing my children reciting the ending of the magic school bus videos. They can say it word for word.

When I show the Magic School Bus in class, most of the kids know every single word.

My favorite memory is still going on- I teach kindergarten and I have a whole collection of Magic School Bus books. I love to teach a science topic and then introduce the latest adventure of Miss Frizzle’s class. Inside Ralphie is always a favorite.

I remember growing up watching the Magic School bus and being so excited for the teacher to use it in class. The same has rung true when I was teaching…the kids LOVED Magic School Bus days. Now, my son loves it too!

I loved watching the Magic School Bus, but I love watching my son watch it (and sing the theme song!) even more! My favorite MSB memories are his Magic School Bus birthday party, his telling Ms Frizzle about it on the Mall at the Book Festival, and his excitement Christmas morning when he discovered Santa left a MSB ornament on the tree!

I read several of the MSB books as a kid, but I didn’t really get hooked until I started teaching. My students love the field trips. Some of my students think I look like Miss Frizzle.
Not only are the shows educational, but they’re also lots of fun. My favorite is the Halloween episode.

I remember reading the MSB books to my very first class of 3rd graders. They loved it!! Now I teach middle schoolers, but my 7 year old daughter is a MSB fan and it brings back great memories. She loves to watch the videos, too. Thanks for offering a fun giveaway!

I love every Magic School Bus episode! My favorite has to be Gets Charged.

I think it is too early to pick a favorite since, now that my little one is old enough to watch it, he has become a science nut. After the space episode, he had me buy him a little space science kit. Every episode sparks his interests and ignites his imagination. Love the Magic school bus. Thank you MSB

While I really enjoyed reading Magic School Bus (and seeing the show), my favorite memory is about my daughter. I got my prissy, little daughter hooked on science by reading Magic School Bus books to her.

As a teacher I believe that Magic School Bus books and DVDs are essential. They make science, creative thinking, and exploration fun. In addition I am grateful that Ms. Frizzle is portrayed in such a great light, as I find that teachers are often portrayed negatively in many other cartoons.

My favorite was the MSB on the water cycle. I watched it as a kid and when my own kids studied the water cycle I found the VHS in the closet!
If was fabulous a second generation around!

I loved the reptile episode where Liz is in the reptile house hibernating and the class goes to break him out. This series was so great for me as a girl interested in science growing up.

I was always happy with these episodes and the books. They were so special for me. I have all these ancient copies that I have handed down to my own kids. We bought the dvd’s after the VHS were so scratched and faded. This was my favorite show growing up. There was so much to learn from science and also about growing up being a kid and solving problems. The communications between the characters and how they resolved their differences was so impactful for me. Thank you for this amazing series.

I remember discovering Magic School Bus books when I was taking education classes in college. I wanted to be a teacher just like Mrs. Frizzle! My students always had copies of her books or videos available. I was, however, especially excited when daughter became interested in reading & learning from the Magic School Bus books!!

I remember reading Magic School Bus books with my brother. We both loved Ms. Frizzle and the way the books had so much information in a fun way. It was such a great way to learn about science. We also loved to play the Inside the Human Body game on the computer. These books were a big part of my childhood and I still love them today.

I remember finding these books in a Scholastic book order when I started my student teaching. I just loved the way science content was delivered in a fun, engaging, and exciting manner. It made me, whose strongest subject was not science, more excited about it. I use many of these books in my own teaching lessons as well. They are great for kids (and adults) of all ages.

Here are my children’s response to “What is your favorite Magic School Bus Memory?”
My son said: “When Arnold and Phoebe found the dinosaur, then they were scared.” (He is five)
My daughter said: “When Ms. Frizzle made Arnold big and he fought a T-Rex.” (She is seven.)

I teach 5th grade currently – but have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. It does not matter what age I teach – all of them have loved watching Magic School Bus. The shows have helped me understand concepts better and therefore teach them better. The kids have loved watching the shows and then seem to grasp the concepts better. I love it when I can effectively involve students’ interests in my teaching. Thank you for making a wonderful program that engages, teaches, and is fun dreaming about being able to do – all in the same of education.

We were introduced to Ms. Fizzle and her extraordinary approach to teaching science when our oldest daughter brought a Magic School Bus book home from the school library. The amount of information conveyed is done in such a way as to not seem a chore for kids to study. Our oldest daughter has since graduated from high school, and the same books that she read has been added to every year, as sibling after sibling reaches that reading level. It is also an excellent series that our older kids can read to and share with their younger brothers and sister. Four down, and three to go! Mahalo, Ms. Fizzle & MSB!

My favorite memories are happening now. Both of my two older kids adore MSB! We got a set of the books at a yard sale a year ago and today those books are still the ones they ask to be read to from the most.

The magic school bus has been a part of my classroom for years! Now with united streaming, I can put away my VHS’s and dvd’s! My greatest memories I have with my kids are the times when I dress up as the frizz! They love it and so do I! Science isn’t the same without her! When it comes on, we all sing the theme song together, loud and proud! Lol! Good times! Thanks scholastic!

The first time I was introduced to Magic School Bus was 21 years ago when I was living in Germany and teaching a US Army school. I was a young teacher and new mom. I loved the story, the style of the book and of course, crazy Ms. Frizzle! My children all grew up loving the books and tv shows. And at my school we always use Magic School Bus to supplement our science units. Happy 25th Magic School Bus!!

My son, who is now a freshman in college studying engineering, loved the Magic School Bus as a preschooler. We had all the books, recorded all the shows to watch over and over, and owned all the computer games. He even had an imaginary friend named Carlos! “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!”

As a great-grandmother, the Magic School Bus didn’t start its travels until my grandchildren came along. Both books and programs were an instant hit with my grandgirls and I, and now for my great grandgirl, who lives with me. Both the six-year old and the sixty-two year old cheer whenever the program starts–we’ve loved underwater travel and travel with frogs! We’re looking forward to each program as it comes up, and would really enjoy a game!

My favorite memories are reading the books to my oldest son when he was young before he could read. These were the early versions in which they had many speech bubbles, science notes and extra sidebars to read. He wanted me to read EVERY word and knew if I skipped one!:) He is in high school now and still loves science. We also liked singing the theme song and I have all his old books for my younger children.

I have loved these shows for years! Now I’m teaching elementary and during March/April, our 1st grade team holds an Eggs-travaganza. We watch eggs in an incubator until they hatch. During this 3 week period, we crack eggs open after watching the Magic School Bus: Cracks a Yolk. They can identify the parts they see in the real eggs, and of course they LOVE to have gloves on and pick up the raw yolk which is perfectly described and shown on the movie. The show ALWAYS holds their attention! I can use so many MSB’s to illustrate something or help them visualize a difficult concept, such as an english as a second language learner and the vocabulary. The 5 senses are especially fun with the MSB: Makes a Stink episode. I wish I could dress like Ms. Frizzle for all our experiments and subjects…she is too cool! Thank you for the many years of great ideas! =)

I remember my children loved the books and the tv show. There was always excitement when the book fair came around to see which books we could add to the collection.
My youngest daughter still has them in a storage container, put back for her children to read in the future.

The Magic School Bus is a staple in my classroom! It gives my fourth grade students a perspective that I can not always give to them when we are talking about a particular subject in science. It has been an invaluable resource for several years. Thank you for the great resource and wonderful way to teach and help kids love science and adventure!! Happy 25th Birthday Magic School Bus!!!!

Happy 25th Birthday Magic School Bus. I’m so happy that my 5 year old daughter can learn a lot about science from the Magic School Bus. She likes to watch the DVDs that we borrow from the library and read the books as well. Everytime we go to the Scholastic Store in Soho she always wants to sit inside the Magic School Bus.

I have always loved Magic School Bus. I remember reading them while I was working on my BSEd. I became hooked! I was already buying them before my daughter was born. She has outgrown them but I refuse to get rid of any of them! I have begun using them in my Early Childhood Special Education class as well. The Science readers are favorites & have just enough info for their level. I wish there were more!!

When my daughter had just turned 3 she picked a magic school bus chapter book for me to read to her at bedtime. I really didn’t think she would like that book- The Wild Whale Watch- but she loved it! I had to read it over and over again and then I had to get her every magic school bus book in every format we could find. We read some of them until the pages fell out!! She is six now, and reading magic school bus to her little brother. His favorite is Magic School Bus at the Waterworks.

My favorite memories of the Magic School Bus are of how much all three of my sons, ages 13, 10, and 4, have loved the books & the TV show. Our 4-year-old has been very excited to discover the Magic School Bus this year, & just today when we took him to an amusement park & saw a school bus in the parking lot, we discussed what it might be like if we took a field trip there with Mrs. Frizzle & her class! He said we’d probably be turned tiny to see all the parts of a rollercoaster up close, like when the class went inside Ralphie or got baked into a cake, and we’d have to worry about people putting their feet down on us! I love how the Magic School Bus has stimulated all 3 of my kids’ imaginations, & how they all still love science & have a great curiosity about the world. Even I have learned stuff from it! I also try to follow Mrs. Frizzle’s philosophy, “Take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy!”

My memory is current, because I use both the books and the MSB videos in my second grade classroom to teach science concepts. Science is not my strong suit, so Ms. Frizzle and her students have engaged my students and me in learning while having fun.

Our family LOVES the Magic School Bus Series!!! It introduces science in an entertaining (and not condescending) way that engages the kids. It catches their attention and they actually learn real science concepts from it!!! My favorite Magic School Bus memory was when my daughter choose to be Ms. Frizzle for Halloween. We love you Magic School Bus!!!

I have loved Magic School Bus since i was a little kid. I grew up reading the books, watching the tv show, and playing the computer games. My love for this series has not dwindled over the years, in fact as a 21 year old I am proud to say that this year I was on a first date, and we stood in line for 35 minutes to meet Ms. Frizzle, take some pictures, and walk through the bus. I didn’t realize how much this series had taught me until I was talking to 6 year olds who were also on the bus and was explaining what all the different books taught. This was definitely one of the greatest days ever! I sent pictures to everyone just to make them jealous! I LOVE Magic School Bus!
