Things that make you go boo!: Fun craft projects for Halloween

Things that make you go boo!: Fun craft projects for Halloween

By on October 14th, 2011

It’s October and that can only mean one thing… Halloween! The leaves are changing, pumpkins are turning into jack-o-lanterns, witches and wizards everywhere are dusting off their broomsticks, and kids are getting their best disguises together for a fun night of trick or treating. Klutz has scared up some fun Halloween activities to get you into the spooky spirit!

Ghouls and goblins and monsters…oh my! Creatures of the night are a cornerstone of Halloween, so the folks at Klutz are brining you two fun ways to play Frankenstein and create your own!  Give pom-poms a monster makeover with Pom-Pom Monster Salon (ages 8 and up). The custom pom-pom maker makes it easy to create pom-poms in endless color combinations. Then style your creations with mops-tops, afros, pigtails, or mohawks, and add accessories like tiny hair bows, punch-out feet, wings, horns, and foam teeth to bring out the beauty in your pom-pom beast. You can click here to see an awesome video on how to get started. Doctor Frankensketch’s Monster Drawing Machine (ages 8 and up) allows you to piece together your own one-of-a-kind monster. Pick your creature parts, lay those parts into the patented Monster Drawing machine, then trace and color to create some truly creepy creatures.

If mummies are more your thing, try Make a Mummy, Shrink a Head, and Other Useful Skills (ages 8 and up)if you dare! Learn how to release an ancient tomb curse to protect your bedroom (who knows who… or what might sneak in to raid your awesome candy stash), shrink a head (or an apple), and make a mummy that will last for thousands of years! Visit the Klutz youtube site to see how to make very creepy shrunken head.

And what is Halloween without the perfect costume? From Frankenstein and vampires to fairies and butterflies, Face Painting (ages 6 and up) has some spooktacular ideas. My personal favorite is the pirate.

Costumes are all about accessories, and what better way to accessorize for a night of trick-or-treating than with some Wicked Cool Friendship Bracelets (ages 8 and up). Complete with whimsical graphics, instructions with a gently wicked sense of humor, and a moody color palate, Wicked Cool Friendship Bracelets has everything you need to make some bracelets with some bite and celebrate Halloween in style.

Tell us OOM readers, what are your favorite Halloween activities?
