Music and teens: a BIG idea
By Guest Blogger on August 15th, 2011
Every couple of weeks we’ve been sharing with you some videos of the 2010 winners of the BE BIG in Your Community Contest in anticipation of the impending announcement of this year’s winner. For today, we have a great example of how kids are never too young too learn the importance of community involvement!
At age 15, Milan, one of the 2010 winners, shows us how BIG someone can be, regardless of age. Milan had a BIG idea for a “Teen Music Hospice Program,” in which teen volunteers perform live music for hospice patients. Music provided the patients with relaxation, and a better way to cope with their surgery — while the teens performing got a chance to do what they love.
Need proof that a simple idea, such as playing music, can create a BIG change for the community? Check it out:
There are thousands of kids like Milan who have entered the 2011 BE BIG in Your Community Contest. We will be revealing these winners in October, but make sure you check back with us all summer long as we recap the 2010 winning videos! – Scholastic Media
