5 Questions with K.A. Applegate: A morph for Animorphs
By Ivy on May 19th, 2011
When I was in 5th grade (no need to do the math) it was rare for a Scholastic Book Clubs box to arrive without an Animorphs book inside. Usually, there were several. Everyone in my class was obsessed with the sci-fi adventure series that taught us about loyalty and respect for animals. Of course, each time a new book came out, we just couldn’t wait to see the cover art and how the morph would look. Well, those days are back! Animorphs has relaunched with a whole new collection of covers!
The re-relaunched series will be published with a lenticular cover for each book that actually morphs. The newest re-releases already out in stores include Animorphs #1: The Invasion , Animorphs #2: The Visitor, and out this July, Animorphs #3: The Encounter.
While I can’t wait for a new generation of readers to get hooked, I think the relaunch is also a treat for older fans. I must point out that before Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, and Harry Potter fans, there were…Animorphs fans, many of whom are still big supporters of the series today! In fact, one of our Twitter followers @kheetor84 just tweeted (pictured here):
Did I mention that her Twitter avatar is a morph??? #urdoingitright!
At the recent LATimes Book Festival, we caught up with the series’ author K.A. Applegate to find out what’s on her mind. We asked K.A. what she thinks of the relaunch, how difficult it is to write in so many different voices for the six characters, and of course, where she got the idea behind Animorphs.
Enjoy!

As another long-time Animorphs fan, I’m definitely excited for the re-release. Purchasing the first two books was just like old times! Thanks, Scholastic and K.A.A.
Favorite morph? I’ll go with dolphin!
