It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

Intrigue, suspense, murder, and more...Plus, a giveaway!

Intrigue, suspense, murder, and more…Plus, a giveaway!

By on March 18th, 2011

Lauren Felsenstein is here again with some great giveaway news! Read on for details.

It’s Friday, so many of you are probably looking for an amazing weekend read and I’m here to help you out with a great one. It’s got love and desire. It’s got intrigue and suspense. It’s got murder, menace, music, and the mob. It’s Strings Attached, the new book by New York Times-bestselling author Judy Blundell, winner of the National Book Award for her first novel, What I saw and How I Lied.

When Kit Corrigan arrives in New York City, she doesn’t have much. She’s fled from her family in Providence, Rhode Island, and she’s broken off her tempestuous relationship with a boy named Billy, who’s enlisted in the army. The city doesn’t exactly welcome her with open arms. She gets a bit part as a chorus girl in a Broadway show, but she knows that’s not going to last very long. She needs help—and then it comes from an unexpected source.

The Los Angeles Times has called Judy’s writing in Strings Attached “reminiscent of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s in The Great Gatsby.” [Editor's note: WOW. How amazing is that?] The Wall Street Journal wrote, “from the first pages of this sophisticated novel for young adults, we are immersed in the scrappy, wisecracking, hard-edged world of 1950s Manhattan.” And see what the New York Times, Washington Post, and Bookpage had to say when they read it!

After the jump, check out the book trailer AND find out how to enter to win our giveaway!

If you find yourself wondering what the author herself likes to read, check out her Bookprint on You Are What You Read! You can also see her interview with PW Children’s Bookshelf here.

If you want to know more, you’ll have to check out the book! Don’t have a copy? Well, we can help you out…

GIVEAWAY: We have two Judy Blundell prize packs to give away! Two lucky readers will each win a copy of the 2008 National Book Award winner, What I Saw and How I Lied, and the brand-new Strings Attached. To enter to win, leave a comment (don’t forget your email address so we can contact you!) and tell us what your weekend reads are. The giveaway runs from today through 5pm ET on Tuesday, March 22. Read the complete legal rules here.

UPDATE: We have our winners! Using Random.org, we drew two winning names. Congratulations to Carrie and Michele. Thanks so much for playing, everyone!

My weekend read was “Sing You Home” by Jodi Picoult. However, my daughter and I are reading together “The Hunger Games” each night. She is 10 and could definitely read it all by herself – but she is loving the exchange of thoughts and ideas as am I :-)
