6 online links to keep Harry Potter fans busy

6 online links to keep Harry Potter fans busy

By on December 6th, 2010

Alright, Potter fans. I take it that by now most of you have either read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or you’ve seen the first part of the Deathly Hallows movie. Either way, I think it’s fair to point out that us Potter fans are a special breed. I’m not just talking about our loyalty to the series. A real Harry Potter fan
…waits in line for hours to get the books,
…buys tickets to the movie a month before its out,
…attends amateur Quidditch games,
…maps out strategies to attend multiple midnight parties and screenings,
…encourages their friends to read the books before watching the movies,
…and of course, always finds new ways to keep the Harry Potter spirit alive beyond the books and movies.

That’s why today on OOM we want to highlight 6 recent web links all Harry Potter fans should check out:

1.) What would an OOM post be if we didn’t give a shout out to our own re-designed Harry Potter website at Scholastic.com? Wizards’ Duel, the seventh and final spell in the series has just launched on this site that’s perfect for young readers who are entering the world of Harry Potter for the first time. However, for older wizards and witches-in-training, it’s got loads of references and resources such as a glossary, pronunciation guide, polls, trivia and quizzes that will keep you busy! Check out some of the spells like the Creature Creator, Transfiguration, Moody’s Trunk, Potions and learn how to cast a Patronus to repel a Dementor.

2.) Not only are you a fan of the Harry Potter movies but you’re a little obsessed with the actors…then you’ll want to visit YouAreWhatYouRead.com, Scholastic’s site that connects readers based on the books that have shaped our lives. Did you know that we have two Harry Potter movie stars on the site? Check out the profiles of the actors who play “Harry” and “Professor Trelawney” to see which five books are in their Bookprint!

3.) If you’re hungry for more ways to explore Harry Potter definitely check out The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook by Dinah Bucholz which “contains recipes for every food mentioned in Harry Potter, from simple everyday foods like scrambled eggs to fancy desserts like treacle tart.” The story behind the book is worth a read too.

4.) And if you give a Harry Potter fan a cookbook, he’ll want some Butterbeer to go with it too! And he’ll want to know the best recipe for creating this famous drink. Fortunately, OOMer Amanda found a plethora of information on Butterbeer with recipes.

5.) The Harry Potter cast may have no trouble pronouncing all the magical words and spells from the books, but when it comes to speaking in an American accent? Take a look…

6.) Think you’re the biggest Harry Potter fan in the world? Think again after you meet this guy…
