It's finally here: the Summer Challenge! Think kids will break the world record for reading again?

It's our anniversary and we'll read if we want to

It’s our anniversary and we’ll read if we want to

By on October 18th, 2010

Friday marks Scholastic’s 90th anniversary, and entire building is buzzing with anticipation (and thank you to all our Twitter friends for the birthday wishes!). We’ve blogged previously about our global literacy campaign, Read Every Day. Lead a Better Life., but today we officially announced other key elements of our 90th anniversary celebration. You can read the full press release here, but let’s just say it involves some famous Scholastic faces making stops around the world. And action steps for everyone to help encourage a child to read every day. And a new social networking site all about the books that shaped your life. Oh, and did I mention Taylor Swift is doing a live literacy event?

And so, you can imagine that Team OOM is pretty darn pumped. Here are some of the things we’re most looking forward to:

Morgan: I can’t wait to hang out in Times Square with some famous Scholastic characters! And I also look forward to explaining to people how Scholastic started with one magazine, created out of the founder’s mother’s sewing room, and grew into what the company is today.

Ivy: I’m excited about the unveiling of a new online community for book lovers of all ages. Just a few more days! And I’m really just excited about the fact that we’re going to get everyone to talk about books and we’re going to make reading FUN in all sorts of ways and COOL. Though…not too cool for school.

Amanda: I can’t wait to hear Taylor Swift talk about how reading influenced her life. And I REALLY can’t wait to connect with others around the world through the books that made me who I am today.

Jessica: I am excited about the next 90 years of new books. I can’t wait to celebrate with the other employees…and maybe even meet some of the librarians in the offices around the world.

Tyler: I’m excited to see all the videos created by Scholastic employees around the world and get a glimpse into what their offices are like. And on Friday, I’ll also be zipping around NYC with Clifford the Big Red Dog as he makes appearances all over the city. If you spot him, come say hi!
