Scholastic is seeing stars!

On Monday, February 2, the Caldecott, Newbery, and Printz Award nominees will be announced so we thought it would be a great moment to look back on our most decorated books from the last year, from picture books to middle grade to young adult. Click here for a list of Scholastic’s 2014 books that received two or more starred reviews.

For Picture Books (Ages 4 to 8):

  • Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan became a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor and a Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2014 and received starred reviews from the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • My Grandfather's Coat by Jim Aylesworth and illustrated by Barbara McClintock was named a Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2014 and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, andSchool Library Journal.

  • Hi, Koo! by Jon J Muth was named a Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2014 and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

For Middle Grade readers (Ages 8 to 12):

  • Dash by Kirby Larson won the 2015 Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

  • The Great Greene Heist by Varian Johnson received starred reviews from Horn Book and Kirkus Reviews.

  • Half A Chance by Cynthia Lord received starred reviews from the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly.

  • Loot by Jude Watson received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

  • The Madman of Piney Woods by Christopher Paul Curtis received starred reviews from  the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Booklist, Horn Book, and Kirkus Reviews.

  • Revolution by Deborah Wiles was a Finalist for the National Book Award and a Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2014 and received starred reviews from Booklist, Horn Book, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • Sisters by Raina Telgemeier was a #1 New York Times Bestseller and received starred reviews from Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • A Snicker Of Magic by Natalie Lloyd received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • Zane And The Hurricane by Rodman Philbrick received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

For Young Adult readers (Ages 12 and up):

  • The Cracks In The Kingdom by Jaclyn Moriarty received starred reviews from Horn Book, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal.

  • The Freedom Summer Murders by Don Mitchell was a Kirkus Reviews Prize Finalist and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

  • Hidden Like Anne Frank: 14 True Stories of Survival by Marcel Prins and Peter Henk Steenhuis was translated into English by Laura Watkinson and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • The Hit by Melvin Burgess received starred reviews from Booklist and Kirkus Reviews.

  • The Raven Cycle #3: Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater was a New York Times Bestseller, named a Kirkus Reviews Best Teen Book for 2014 and a School Library Journal Best Book of 2014 and received starred reviews from Booklist, the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.

  • Threatened by Eliot Schrefer was a Finalist for the National Book Award, named a Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2014, and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

  • Why We Took The Car by Wolfgang Herrndorf was translated by Tim Mohr and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.
